Mercury Transit Viewing

Join us for this very special celestial event that only happens around thirteen times in a century. A Mercury transit takes place when the planet Mercury crosses the Sun's disc as it ventures directly between the Earth and the Sun. Mercury appears as a small black dot moving across the face of the Sun. With a telescope with filters, you can actually see this happen! The last time this happened was in 2006, the next one will occur in 2019 and after that, not until 2032!! Our volunteer and amateur astronomer, Howard Lester will have his telescope set up in Parking Lot #1 on Scout Road. Drop in and take a peek, no registration necessary.
