Mokume Gane is Japanese for wood grain metal. This class will de-mystify the techniques to create these pattern-welded materials. Mokume are dissimilar nonferrous metals forge welded together and then manipulated to make interesting patterns. In this class students will be forging silver and copper. This material is then used to make jewelry and other embellishments that are added to different metal projects. The technique does not require great strength. It is easily done by most anyone. Techniques explored will be forge welding billets, pattern development, discovering the limitations of the material, etching processes and making interesting small projects.
NOTE: Hard shoes and long pants are required for student's safety.
