Black Ash Basketry: Harvest, Process and Weaving with Kerry Lambertson. #979-1022. 2 days. October 22-23.

In this class, students will create, prepare and weave black ash splint according to traditional methods practiced by native people, early settlers and Shaker communities of the northeastern woodlands. Starting from the whole ash log, we will pound free the annual rings, creating a strong and versatile weaving material called splint. Next we will prepare the splint for weaving and proceed to learning weaving techniques to create one small basket and possibly more depending upon time. No experience is required, but strong hands and wrists will be helpful.
